Good News! Illinois ratified the Equal Rights Amendment in 2018. Virginia followed in 2020. The Equal Rights Amendment is fully ratified. Now what, you ask?
It's in President Biden's hands now. The U.S. Archivist has the job of "publishing" a new amendment to declare it's official, but he didn't when his lawyer told him not to. President Biden can change that. Text President Biden at (302) 404-0880, and ask him to publish the Equal Rights Amendment immediately so that we can start enforcing it. If you are in Illinois, thank our Illinois congressional delegation members for co-sponsoring SJR4 and HJR25 to affirm that the Equal Rights Amendment is fully ratified. Next, urge them to join the Congressional ERA Caucus. Thank Illinois Attorney General who fought in court to ensure the Equal Rights Amendment is affirmed as fully ratified. Thank you Kwame Raoul! Cheers to Senator Dick Durbin for chairing the 2023 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the status of ERA ratification and Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton for her attending the hearing to testify for Illinois and all Americans. Read the testimony submitted by ERA Illinois. Cheers to Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz and Senator Laura Fine for passing HJR20 in the Illinois General Assembly, which calls on President Biden to publish the ERA and Congress to affirm the ERA as fully ratified! If you live outside of Illinois, all eyes are on Utah, Arizona, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Missouri, Louisiana, and Georgia to continue ratification for all 50 states. Check out our Toolkit and ERA Syllabus. Onward! |
