Decades of piecemeal legislation have not brought women equal justice under the law. Only the Equal Rights Amendment can do that. Good News! Illinois, ratified the Equal Rights Amendment! Now what, you ask?
If you are in Illinois, first urge our Illinois congressional delegation members to sign on to #HRes891 that will remove the deadline on equality. Meanwhile, the Illinois Attorney General continues to fight in court to ensure the Equal Rights Amendment is affirmed. Thank you Kwame Raoul!
Cheers to Rep. Jennifer Gong Gershowitz for introducing HJR94 in the Illinois General Assembly, which resolution asks President Biden to publish the ERA, the US Senate to affirm the ERA, and other States to take similar actions. Is your state representative a co-sponsor yet? Check the Illinois General Assembly website.
If you live outside of Illinois, after Virginia became the 38th state in January 2020, all eyes are on Utah, Arizona, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Missouri, Louisiana, and Georgia to continue ratification for all 50 states.
In 2022, the resolution numbers are #SJRes1 and #HJRes17. The resolution passed the House and is pending in the Senate. There is also #HRes891 which only needs to pass in the House.
